In 1966, Mr. Zheng Wen-Qian worked at the Puli Farmers' Association. By chance, he was introduced to mushroom cultivation and realized its great potential as an industry. He left his stable job and chose to enter the still-developing mushroom sector. At that time, people laughed at him, calling him a "fool," but he was undeterred by their mockery. He focused on researching edible mushrooms and later founded the "Rich Year" mushroom brand.
Several years later, through his honest business practices and by building strong relationships with customers, he constantly improved the quality of the mushroom strains and became the largest mushroom supplier in Taiwan.
Around 1981, Taiwan invented the mushroom-growing bag technology, and Mr. Zheng was one of the inventors. This marked a new milestone in mushroom cultivation in Taiwan. Today, thanks to the technological breakthrough at that time, shiitake mushrooms have become a common dish enjoyed by households everywhere.
The Journey of Rich Year Farm
In 1999, a devastating earthquake severely damaged the production facilities in Puli. In response, Rich Year transformed its previously private production site into an ecological education-focused mushroom farm, allowing the public to observe the cultivation process. In 2002, the farm was officially renamed "Rich Year Farm." Today, the farm combines education, tourism, and leisure, offering families an experience where they can learn, play, and enjoy fresh mushroom dishes.
Becoming an Expert in Mushrooms
As a leading producer in the mushroom industry, Rich Year Farm not only continuously provides high-quality mushroom strains to farmers both domestically and internationally, but it has also long been exporting Reishi mushrooms to Japan. It is one of the few farms in Taiwan that spans the entire mushroom production chain, from upstream to downstream. This "one-stop" production model symbolizes complete control over quality. Now, under the management of the second generation, the family legacy is being continued. In addition to inheriting Mr. Zheng Wen-Qian’s spirit of "integrity," the farm has also embraced the values of deep local roots and natural sustainability, ensuring that Rich Year Farm continues to produce the finest ingredients.
